is a community of people dedicated to the propagation, growing and showing of orchid flowers.
We meet once a month to show our plants and share growing experiences and listen to informative presentations
by experienced growers. Plants, growing medium and fertilizers are for sale at the meetings.
The hobby also has a more serious side to it. One can put plants up for award judging, where the plant is judged against
international criteria. Our society is affiliated to the South African Orchid Council (SAOC), which coordinates the activities
of orchid societies throughout the country.
A National Orchid Show is held every three years in different cities throughout South Africa. This gives orchid growers
the opportunity to meet other orchid enthusiasts.
South Africa is part of the international orchid growing community, and very successfully hosted the 10th World Orchid
Conference in 1981 in Durban and the 21st World Orchid Conference, held at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, in 2014.
Whether you are an experienced grower or
new to this hobby, we invite you to join us.
We welcome new ideas and value input
from enthusiastic members, new and old.
